Director of Accounting

Job description:

Our client is seeking a Director of Accounting and Compliance responsible for oversight of the accounting and accounting related activities, including business activities, oversight of payroll administration and the accounting for income taxes.
Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

  • Supervise accounting support team
  • Manage the general ledger closing cycle
  • Review journal entries and account reconciliations in support of the closing process
  • Review and compile quarterly and annual data for inclusion in press releases, 10-Qs, and 10-Ks
  • Conduct accounting research to provide insights for new business ventures and emerging accounting regulations
  • Collaborate with Financial Planning and Analysis in preparing annual budgets and monthly forecasts
  • Aid in developing accounting policies/positions in support of commodity transactions
  • Evaluate new contracts to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards
  • Manage the corporate tax function and the relationship with outsourced tax services
  • Guarantee compliance with statutory filing requirements for both direct and indirect tax activities at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Monitor, analyze, document, and communicate existing and emerging topics to ensure accurate GAAP and statutory tax reporting
  • Ensure accurate delivery of payroll payments, reporting, and compliance activities
  • Provide leadership and guidance on all matters pertaining to the organization’s payroll activities, encompassing strategic and tactical planning
  • Lead and supervise a team to handle all payroll inquiries and requests, maintaining a high level of quality and customer service
  • Maintain documentation for internal control and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
  • Examine and present financial statement disclosures, particularly non-regulated and tax disclosures in consolidated financial statements
  • Provide support to external audits for quarterly and annual requests related to non-regulated, accounting, tax, and payroll activities; offer variance analysis and explanations for MD&A as needed
  • Develop and manage effective relationships with various business units across multiple workstreams

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, Master’s degree preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in various roles of increasing responsibility and day-to-day accounting activities and team management
  • Power and Utility and/or Energy industry experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC and other regulatory accounting/reporting requirements and application, as well as an in-depth understanding of the accounting standard setting process
  • Strong analytical and project planning skills and ability to research theoretical concepts, conclude on impacts, and implement solution frameworks for regulatory mandates, new transactions and to align to business growth
